Server Move 2019

Hello!

I set this server up 2 years ago, as a cheaper, but slightly more powerful server than what we were using. But, Virtuadopt and its code base are almost 10 years old! That meant we couldn't run the latest and greatest software. Everything had to be compatible with the old code.

Fast forward to today. I'm working professionally as a web developer. I have learned a lot since that server was set up, both about programming and how Linux servers work. As I have been working on the site, I have been making the necessary updates to the code to bring it to this decade.

I don't know about you, but VIrtuadopt seems kinda slow, kinda sluggish when loading pages. Try loading the Nation Pokedex. Go on, I'll wait the minute that it takes (~1.2 minutes). What if I told you I had a new web server set up right now, that was loading that same National Pokedex in about twenty seconds? Sounds like a dream, but it is a reality.

Some time Friday night, ideally sooner, the site will go "offline" while I copy over all of the site files and copy over the database. All of your adoptables will be safely transported at lightspeed. Everything should be exactly as you left it. The migration itself should not take more than an hour or two. Once everything is set up, I'll enable the site on the server. But, there is this thing called DNS. DNS is what translates web addresses like virtuadopt.com to an IP address. Since the Internet runs on DNS, updates can take hours or even days to propagate out to everyone. You may continue to see the old server offline message until your provider updates their DNS cache.

Anyways, hopefully the new server will bring a noticeable difference to speed and we can get back to fixing bugs and introducing new ones :D

Feel free to ask questions below or raise concerns.

Thanks for letting us know Yankees--any chance these changes will make it possible to have our adopts be fed on one click in yarolds by putting in feed link?

Looking forward to seeing the site run better. Maybe there will be less lag whenever Click Exchange gives me a new question?

Yarolds already works with one click.

It's possible the CE will be faster, but probably not in the very beginning.

If you can read this, you are on the new server.

Yankees the images are not showing up for most of my eggs. I tried a couple hard refreshes but they still won't show up

Whoo!!

I'm able to access the site and everything seems to be working great, but I'm guessing things are still in the process of migrating somewhat? Some of the images are either not there, or the wrong images entirely. A bunch of my Pokemon are displaying as eggs, and a bunch more are just blank boxes with 'Steps' under them. Doing a Ctrl+F5 doesn't help.

I'm guessing this is something that'll iron itself out in a few hours, just figured I'd let you know in case some setting needs nudged. Thanks for all the hard work!!!

Try leveling up the adopts and refreshing the page they're on. I fixed my Winter Eevees and Christmas Pikachus that way.
I think it's a cache issue.

Oh yes, that does work! I also noticed it seems to mostly affect Pokemon/eggs generated recently, all my older adopts are fine.

I have a bunch of older ones not showing up in my boxes. I really hope I don't have to do all those one by one, but I am gonna wait a couple days and see if it works itself out. Also a lot of things in GTS are not showing atm

I have the same problem. A lot of my newest adopts don't show up correctly some of the oldest too. Clicking or refreshing does not help me.

I have an egg with 12 credit in the CE and can´t put the credits from my egg.
